Redbridge Scores Top Marks –
Starts new term with two national Fruit and Vegetable Contract Wins

Redbridge is delighted to announce winning the South East and South West distribution contracts for the National Fruit and Vegetable Scheme (formerly the National School Fruit Scheme).

Redbridge will be supplying 162,000 children in over 1,400 schools with approx 750,000 pieces of fruit per week from its brand new dedicated distribution centres in Bristol and Southampton.

These latest wins add to the Company's current National Fruit and Vegetable Scheme contracts in the North East, North West and West Midlands, bringing the total number of schools in the country served by Redbridge to almost 4,000.

Apples, pears, easy peel citrus and bananas are currently delivered to schools in the North East, North West and West Midlands so children receive a different piece of fruit each day. The new term will see a broadened range of fruit delivered within the scheme, based on seasonal availability including strawberries, kiwi fruit and carrots.

The two new depots in Bristol and Southampton represent a significant investment in the scheme including specialist routing software that helps determine a delivery schedule that minimises the impact on the environment whilst ensuring regular supplies of fruit to even the most rural of locations.

A recruitment and training programme is underway at both depots, which have full accreditation for food safety and traceability, and delivery trials are currently taking place in readiness for the new school year.

Richard Clements, Account Manager says: "Redbridge is committed to supporting the National Fruit and Vegetable Scheme and Five A Day drive, which is a valuable initiative for both the Company and the community. The success of our existing contracts on the North East, North West and West Midlands have been a major factor in helping us win these contracts and we are delighted - we can't wait to start making the deliveries to thousands of school children in the South East and South West who will benefit from the scheme. "

The regions covered by these new Redbridge contracts include:

South East: Poole; Bournemouth; Isle of Wight; Hampshire; Southampton; Portsmouth; West Sussex and Brighton. South West: Gloucestershire; South Gloucestershire; Bristol; North Somerset; Swindon and Wiltshire.
