Interflora Florist of the Year Awards
At Tatton Park
Redbridge Produce & Flowers sponsored
the flowers for Interflora's biennial Florist of the Year
and Newcomer of the Year competitions.
Ten finalists in each competition, from
each region of the UK, spent a day constructing a display
area and preparing props, then another day making up five
arrangements against the clock. These individual arrangements
were then grouped to make a finished display.
Redbridge also introduced a new award, the
Redbridge Award for Innovation, which was presented to the
candidate who in the opinion of the Redbridge judges, shows
the greatest innovation in their design or use of product.
The
winner of this award - an innovative freeplay radio, a year's
subscription to a floristry design magazine, and a year's
supply of exclusive flowers for their shop - was Chika Shindo
from Earthworks Corp, London. Her typhoon design showed great
imagination and technical skill, as well as an inventive approach
to the overall theme of Midsummer Madness.
In
addition, Interflora provided designer demonstrations for
visitors throughout the show, giving them idea and inspiration
on using and enjoying fresh flowers. Dennis van wonderen,
a Dutch florist based in Wimbledon, entertained the crowds
throughout the four days of the show. Redbridge sponsored
his flower stock for these demonstrations, including some
brand new products, still on trial at the growers.
The
Interflora competition preparation, the show itself, and the
awards ceremony dinner were all filmed by the BBC and were
screened as part of its coverage of Tatton Park Flower Show
on 22nd July at 7pm, watched by over 6 million people.
