Redbridge Raises Fruit and Vegetable
School Routes to 4,000
Redbridge, one of the UK's leading suppliers
of produce solutions, has driven the first fruit and vegetable
deliveries into schools in the South East and South West for
the School Fruit and Vegetable Scheme. This completes the
roll out for the scheme in England and brings the total number
of schools in the country served by Redbridge to almost 4,000.
Redbridge is supplying 162,000 children
in over 1400 schools with approx 750,000 pieces of fruit per
week from its brand new dedicated distribution centres in
Bristol and Southampton. These deliveries add to the Company's
current School Fruit and Vegetable Scheme contracts to deliver
in the North East, North West and West Midlands.
The range of fruit and vegetables in the
scheme has been broadened this term to include strawberries,
cherry tomatoes and carrots alongside apples, pears bananas
and easy peel citrus. Based on seasonal availability, the
range is delivered on a rota basis so children receive a different
piece of fruit or vegetables each day.
The two new Redbridge depots in Bristol
and Southampton represent a significant investment in the
scheme with new facilities and operating procedures including
specialist routing software that helps determine a delivery
schedule that minimises the impact on the environment, whilst
ensuring regular supplies of produce to even the most rural
of locations.
In readiness for the launch, a recruitment and training programme
was undertaken as well as delivery trials at both depots,
which have full accreditation for food safety and traceability.
Richard Clements, Account Manager
says: "We are delighted to be launching the deliveries
of fruit and vegetables to thousands of school children in
the South East and South West who will benefit from the School
Fruit and Vegetable Scheme. Redbridge is committed to supporting
the Scheme and the 5 A Day campaign, which is a valuable initiative
for both the Company and the community and we are looking
forward to developing this contract in the year ahead."
