Redbridge Goes To The Top Of The Class
At The Start Of Term With Another National Fruit Scheme Contract
Win
January 2003
Redbridge, one of
the UK's leading suppliers of produce solutions today announces
winning the North East distribution contract for the National
School Fruit Scheme.
Redbridge will be supplying 118,000 children,
in 950 schools across the North East with 600,000 pieces of
fruit and vegetables per week from a dedicated centre at its
Gateshead depot. Apples, pears, easy peel citrus, bananas
and now carrots will be supplied to school children aged four
to seven to ensure they receive a free piece of fruit or vegetables
on each school day.
This latest win adds to the company's current
National Fruit Scheme contracts in the West Midlands and the
North West bringing the total number of schools in the country
served by Redbridge to almost 2,500.
Steve Harrison, business development director
says; "At Redbridge we're committed to supporting the
National Fruit Scheme and the Five a Day drive and can't wait
to start making the deliveries to thousands of North East
school children who will benefit from this scheme. The success
of our two existing contracts in the West Midlands and the
North West is a major factor in helping us to win this new
contract."
The Gateshead branch of Redbridge Produce
and Flowers, which has STS accreditation for food safety and
traceability, will start deliveries from March 2004 and will
be devoting a new driver team and management to the contract.
Specialist routing software helps determine a delivery schedule
that minimises the impact on the environment whilst ensuring
regular supplies of fruit and vegetables to even the most
rural school locations.
