Worldfresh celebrates amazing growth

In the year that Redbridge Group celebrates its 10th anniversary as an independent company, its Worldfresh import and procurement division is also celebrating - its most successful year to date.

Sales of soft fruits through Worldfresh's brand The Summerfruit Company, which had been increasing at a respectable £1 million per year, leapt by a massive £12 million during 2004. Biggest increases were seen in sales to the leading multiples, but sales to foodservice, independent retail and convenience outlets also recorded impressive growth.

The 2005 season looks to be just as successful for The Summerfruit Company, with demand potentially outstripping supply and the only limit to record sales of soft fruits being what the growers are able to grow. Satisfaction rates amongst customers have also shown great improvement, with a reduction in rejections and customer complaints. Redbridge Worldfresh Managing Director Richard Parke-Davies said: "I am delighted by this outstanding result, and the hard work the staff have put in over the past year. In light of the increased volume and value of sales through Worldfresh, we have recently strengthened our technical, sales support and financial teams considerably. This will ensure that we carry on growing successfully and effectively, and continue to offer the best service possible to our customers and suppliers."

The Summerfruit Company's UK blueberry grower, David Trehane of the Dorset Blueberry Company, won Young Grower of the Year at the Grower of the Year awards earlier this year. The Dorset Blueberry Company was featured on the BBC's prime time coverage of BBC Gardeners' World show at NEC Birmingham in June 2005.

UK strawberry grower for The Summerfruit Company, Peter Wensak of Pole House Nursery, recently featured in the strawberry advert for Sainsbury's. His premium-quality strawberries, marketed under Sainsbury's Taste The Difference brand, are the only Taste The Difference brand to be nominated for the Q Awards for quality foods in December 2005.
