Redeva Down Under
Ronnie McNicol and Irene Geogehegan
will be taking the Redeva message of strawberry breeding to
Australia in September. They are presenting details of the
new Susana strawberry to fellow berry experts at the 5th International
Strawberry Symposium in Queensland, Australia.
International
Flavour
The symposium is designed to meet the information
needs of strawberry researchers, breeders, students, and commercial
producers. The scientific programme includes over 180 presentations
on all topics related to strawberries. An additional 21 papers
will be presented during the strawberry growers programme.
Presentations have been received from over 30 countries and
from five Australian states.
Main Topics
Subjects covered include breeding programmes
and cultivars; genetic diversity; strawberry production and
physiology; crop protection; propagation; postharvest physiology;
quality and flavour; industry development; soil disinfestation;
undercover production and organic production. There will be
a special workshop to investigate all aspects and factors
affecting strawberry runner production, health and performance.
Grower Programme
Thursday's programme for growers only
includes presentations on pests and disease management; irrigation,
nutrition and sap analysis; breeding new cultivars; climate
management; marketing; organic options and covered/hydroponic
production.
