Blueberry Walk

At Redbridge's Summerfruit Company stand at Fruit Focus earlier this year, English blueberry growers David Trehane and his mother Jennifer gave a detailed presentation on blueberry growing, detailing the experiences they have had at their plantations in Dorset.

Following this, David made an offer to host a visit to his farm. Redbridge berry fruit growers considering taking up the crop took the opportunity to learn first hand about blueberry cultivation techniques and the increasing range of varieties which are available

The last of the English blueberry crop is now being picked on the Trehane's plantations in Dorset. David currently has 18 acres in production and is planning another 10 this spring. A crop planted by his father Jeremy 50 years ago is still producing excellent yields, so this crop is a long-term investment.

Sales this summer have boomed as consumers get to know the sweet mild taste of blueberries and recognise the healthy properties of the fruit.
